Tom Satoh is widely recognized as Japan’s top IT executive search consultant. A former CEO of IT companies himself, he is the consultant of choice in recruiting Presidents and Country Managers for the Japanese subsidiaries of foreign companies in start-up, turnaround and growth situations in the fields of enterprise software and hardware, telecommunications, the Internet, e-commerce and digital/multimedia entertainment.  Through his successful placements, Tom helps foreign companies attain their business objectives in Japan.

 

Previous Experience
Before joining A.T. Kearney Executive Search, Tom led the Tokyo IT practice teams of two other leading global executive search firms. Immediately prior to his career as an executive search consultant, Tom was a consultant to America Online (AOL), where he created AOL Japan, Inc., a three-way, $120 million joint venture with Mitsui & Co. and Nikkei.  As the first President, Tom oversaw the start-up of AOL Japan in 1996.  Starting his professional career with Xerox, Tom was the first Chairman, President & CEO of the first Fuji Xerox U.S. subsidiary located in Washington, DC.  Tom was also the first Japanese citizen in U.S. Congressional history to testify as an expert witness on Japanese industrial technology development before the Science Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Tom lived in the U.S. for 20 years before moving back to Japan to create AOL Japan in 1996, and is fluent in the business, language and culture of both countries.

Education
Tom earned a B.S. in Physics from Furman University (Greenville, SC) and an M.A. in Physics from The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD). He also pursued graduate studies in architecture at the University of Texas in Austin, TX, before turning to business in 1982.
